I am writing this post after a very long time because I was suffering from my health problems and was not able to sit in front of my computer.

But I am sure that this post will give you a little laugh and will help you relieve your tensions.

You must be aware of SPAM emails and unsolicited calls and messages on mobile phones and you really know how frustrating this is.

Let us consider a situation… You are waiting for a very important call on mobile phone and your cell phone rings, you rush to pick your cell phone with a semicircle smile on your face and receive that call. The caller from other end says “ Hello Sir, I am speaking from XYZABC Finance Company and we are offering you special interest rates for personal loans” your head starts boiling and you start thinking to ***** them.

Some weeks ago, our Indian Finance Minister also got a similar call and he gets agitated, thanks to the person who called them because it forces the Ministry of Telecom and TRAI to take very harsh steps towards agencies and companies who are disregarding “DO NOT DISTURB REGISTRY”.

We will see in future what happens, but for the time being have a look and enjoy an email from a victim of chain emails….

Here it Goes….

I wanted to thank all my friends, pals and family who have forwarded chain letters to me in 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009 and continuing it in 2010 also and I am sure they will keep doing it until I am dead…….

Because of your kindness:

* I stopped drinking Coca Cola and other soft drinks after I found out that it’s good for removing toilet stains.

* I stopped going to the movies for fear of sitting on a needle infected with AIDS, because I do not want to die at an age of 95.

* Forwarded hundreds of mails but still waiting for FREE DESKTOP, LAPTOP, CAMERA, CELLPHONE, IPOD, IPAD etc….

* I smell like a wet dog since I stopped using deodorants because they cause cancer…

* I don’t leave my car in the parking lot or any other place and sometimes I even have to walk about 7 blocks for fear that someone will drug me with a perfume sample and try to rob me.

* I also stopped answering the phone for fear that they may ask me to dial a stupid number and then I get a phone bill with calls to Uganda, Pakistan, Singapore and Tokyo.

* I also stopped drinking anything out of a Can for fear that I will get sick from the rat faeces and urine.

* When I go to parties, I don’t look at any girl, no matter how hot she is, for fear that she will take me to a hotel, drug me, then take my kidneys and leave me taking a nap in a bathtub full of ice.

* I also donated all my savings to the Amy Bruce account. A sick girl that was about to die in the hospital about 7,000 times… (Poor girl! she’s been 7 since 1993…)

* Still open to help somebody from Nigeria who wants to use my account to transfer his uncle’s property of $ 100 million. So much trustworthy.

* I have forwarded 35 emails to 400 people hoping that Ericsson or Nokia will send me latest mobile phones but those models are also obsolete now.

* Made some hundred wishes before forwarding those Ganesh, Tirupathi Balaji pics etc. Now most of those “Wishes” are already married (to someone else)

This post is not related to seo or Blogging, but I thought I shall share it with you all, as I am feeling very proud that Indian Currency has got its own symbol.

The symbol combines the Devnagri “Ra” and Roman Letter “R” with two parallel lines which denote the strength and development of Indian economy. Till now, the Indian currency was simply denoted by Rs or INR.

The symbol is designed by Mr. D Udaya Kumar, a postgraduate from IIT Bombay and teacher in IIT Guwahati. He will receive Rs. 2.5 lakh as prize money.

After getting an unique symbol, Indian rupee has joined the club of elite currencies which have similar distinct symbols, the US Dollar, Euro, Yen and British Pound.

It would distinguish the rupee from those countries whose currencies are also designated as rupee or rupiah, such as Pakistan, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Indonesia.

So how to type the symbol using existing keyboards:

Foradian Technologies Pvt. Ltd, a Mangalore based firm has created a font called Rupee_Foradian, which can be downloaded from Company’s Blog for free at: blog.foradian.com

After downloading the font — a .ttf file — copy it to your computer’s C:/Windows/Fonts folder

Open a word file, type the first character(`) on the keyboard (it appears to the left of 1, select the character, and apply the Rupee_Foradian font.

Some days before i was checking logs of one of my website related to travel and i found that an IP was sucking a lot of bandwidth from my hosting account. But the website (the IP) was not sending any visitor to my website. I got confused as what was happening, so i checked the website and found that they were leeching one of my video, using an iframe.

Means they were presenting my video to their visitors, opening directly from my website using an iframe.

In one way it was good for me because the video was watermarked with my website name, so my website was getting extra exposure. But my main concern was the amount of bandwidth they were leeching.

So i emailed them to either remove my video from their website or host it on their own server, but i haven’t got any reply from them…

So i have banned their IP from accessing my website.

I wrote this post because i though many of you would have faced this problem, or may face in future. So what to do in such a situation?

There are probably two easy solutions for this, which are as follows:

1. Use free video hosting websites: You can use free video hosting websites like youtube.com for hosting your video. Once you have uploaded your video on youtube.com, you can embed them anywhere on your website, without worrying about bandwidth consumption.

2. Permanently Ban the IP or Website from Accessing your website: You can permanently ban any IP or website from accessing your website with the help of HTACCESS file.

Example: If you know the IP address (For an example we take this case, suppose  it is 192.129.0.1) write

order allow, deny
deny from 192.129.0.1
allow from all

If you want to block multiple IP address using .htaccess simply add one IP address per line as below:-

order allow, deny
deny from 192.129.0.1
deny from 192.129.0.2
deny from 192.129.0.3
allow from all

You can even block a network range IPs using .htaccess:-

order allow, deny
deny from 192.0.0
allow from all

You can also use the name of the website like:

order allow, deny
deny from website URL(”website.com”)
allow from all

If you are using wordpress blogs there is a good plug-in available for blocking IP Addresses

Like: WP-Ban

If you are not familiar with HTACCESS File, let me show you how to make one

1. Open notepad
2. Write the code which you want to write in the HTACCESS (As shown in examples above)

3. Click Save As and type .htaccess in file name and choose Save As Type as All Files.

Next upload the file to the root folder of your website and you are done.
